Loft conversions / Attic conversions

To establish if you have adequate roof space for an attic conversion you should first find out its exact dimensions. There should be ample room under the ridge of the roof to allow for enough headroom. If on inspection of the area it is established that the area is sufficient then a loft conversion will provide you with extra living space in your home. A further positive in extending your home in this way will be the added value it will bring to your property.

There are two main types of loft conversion:

Loft ConversionRoof window conversion

Roof windows are often an attractive option due to the fact that they are fitted into the line of the roof; thus removing the need for restructuring of the roof itself. The installation of such windows will provide the loft space with generous natural light. A roof window conversion will sometimes not require planning permission, although they will always require building regulation approval.

Dormer conversion

A dormer is a window-featured extension of the roof, usually installed to provide more space and headroom within the loft, in addition to improved staircase access. Unlike a roof window conversion the installation of a dormer window is subject to planning permission requirements from the local authorities.

Benefits of a loft conversion

The benefits of a attic conversion will depend on your individual needs. As mentioned above investing in a loft conversion will add value to your property. A conversion will also create much needed space for the growing family who would prefer not to move home.
